Lucky Hall Of Famer Number 33 - Lloyd Waner

Lloyd Waner was a NL centerfielder, mostly with the Pirates, from 1927 through 1945. He was a high average hitter and one of the hardest men in the game's history to strike out, but hardly of Hall of Fame caliber. Let's examine his career.
Waner played in a very heavy hitting era, and despite his .316 lifetime batting average, he wasn't much of a productive hitter overall because he lacked power (27 career home runs) and scarcely walked (32 walks per 154 games). His .316/.353/.393 slash line was good only for an OPS+ of 99 (league average 100), the lowest of any Hall of Fame outfielder. He was also not a very effective base stealer, swiping only 67 bags and being caught at least 52 times (Waner's caught stealing total from 1927 is unavailable). This leaves him as a poor overall offensive player. He was a very good defensive centerfielder, but he wasn't great out there, and his fielding skills don't nearly make up for his lack of offense.

My opinion: Lloyd Waner is not a Hall of Famer.
