Lucky Hall Of Famer Number 31 - Burleigh Grimes

Burleigh Grimes pitched from 1916 through 1934 and is best known as the last legal spitball pitcher. In 1920, the spitball was outlawed, but 17 pitchers were allowed to keep throwing them until the end of their careers. Grimes lasted the longest out of all of them. There are many other interesting stories about Grimes that may have helped lift him into Cooperstown, but he was not deserving of the honor.
Grimes was quite inconsistent in his career. Come Opening Day, nobody really knew whether to expect a great season out of Grimes or a terrible one. Grimes led the NL in a good pitching category 19 times, in an indifferent category three times, and in a bad pitching category eight times. Altogether, Grimes had a 3.53 ERA (108 ERA+) and a record of 270-212 (.560), which are not Hall of Fame numbers. He was also not a big game pitcher, as he went 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA in World Series play.

My opinion: Burleigh Grimes is not a Hall of Famer.
